Extractions And Dental Implants Are The Perfect Combination

At OnCall Dental in Fresno CA, we know that a tooth extraction can leave you feeling somewhat spent. After all, most dental visits end with the happiness of a restored tooth or reduced pain. But dental emergencies like a required tooth extraction, while definitely beneficial to an ailing smile, also leave us with a sense of loss.

Nobody wants to see a tooth go. This is why we offer a follow-up solution to this emergency dentistry option: dental implants.

The Extraction-Implant Timeline

  • Firstly, your dentist will discuss and apply any sedation options you are comfortable with.
  • Then, the dental team will go to work on extracting your tooth.
  • After a thorough dental cleaning, the team will seal up the area and let it heal.
  • Once the extraction trauma has healed, you can return to the office for a dental implant procedure.
  • The dentist will surgically insert a titanium post – again, under sedation – into your gum line, where it can fuse to your jawline and become a permanent fixture of your new smile.
  • After the osseointegration process – a fancy word for the rate at which the bone fuses with the titanium – you return for one final step: your dental restoration. Many are compatible with dental implants, including high-end dentures and bridges.
  • In the end, you will have a radiant new smile with perfect replacement teeth that are indistinguishable from your real ones.

If you suffer from a dental emergency that requires a tooth extraction, you don’t need to bid goodbye to your teeth. You can say hello to a brand-new smile instead! The team at OnCall Dental in Fresno CA is ready to make the process smooth and the results will amaze you. Contact us today!

Wisdom Teeth Can Quickly Become An Emergency!

At OnCall Dental in Fresno CA, we know that wisdom teeth aren’t always the first thing on your mind. After all, not everyone suffers from problems when they come in. However, for a lot of us, they can become a pretty big problem if we don’t take care of them. So, while not always a dental emergency, they can turn into one seemingly overnight.

Wisdom teeth begin to come in between the ages of 17 and 25, erupting from the back of the gums and potentially shifting your smile. This is due to the fact that a lot of us don’t have the space for extra molars when the rest of our teeth have already set. Misalignment is the least of it though.

Another common problem that we see at our offices – and one that is way more threatening to your smile than simple misalignment – is that of the impacted wisdom tooth. Sometimes, due to the lack of space or the shape of the jaw, a wisdom tooth can come in at an angle. Sometimes, it doesn’t even fully erupt into the jawline!

Instead, it juts itself against the root of an existing tooth. It’s growth, however, doesn’t stop, which results in the emerging crown (or top) of the tooth pushing somewhat horizontally against your smile.

This can cause an intense amount of discomfort and progress the misalignment of your smile at an increased speed. What’s worse, it can damage gum tissue and create space for food debris to become lodged in your smile. This can eventually lead to dental infections, gum disease, and even tooth loss. And to think, it can all be avoided be preemptively removing your wisdom teeth.

Luckily, OnCall Dental in Fresno CA offers wisdom tooth extractions and a host of other emergency dentistry services. Satisfied patients report that the procedure caused only minimal discomfort! Contact us today!

Your Tooth Extraction Doesn’t Have To Be A Big Deal

At OnCall Dental in Fresno CA, we know dental emergencies are not anyone’s favorite way to spend an afternoon. This can be especially true when whatever discomfort you’re feeling turns out to be a major problem, requiring a tooth extraction.

However, we want to remind you that, with our empathetic and communicative dental team, and our top-of-the-line patient comfort options, your procedure will be a breeze!

When you visit our practice, we will not simply sit you down and start working. Our dental team is trained in direct patient-communication. We vow to never sugarcoat dental issues, and to work with you to fix them when they arise. If your problem requires an extraction, we will take every step to make you comfortable before we begin.

A caring dental team is important in all dentistry; but it is especially important with emergency dentistry, as patients need all the guidance they can get and this is often needed in times of panic and pain.

Another bonus of our office are our sedation options. With the choice between commonly used laughing gas, and a deeper anesthetic procedure called oral conscious sedation, our patients are in control of their own pain management.

At OnCall Dental in Fresno CA, a tooth extraction is not the end of the world. If anything, it’s the beginning of a bright dental future. Emergency Extractions

A toothache is an SOS from your brain that something is wrong. If you or someone in your home has a toothache there is no need to suffer. Remember the team at OnCall Dental in Fresno. We are here to help!

Severe toothache pain is unbearable, and may also be a sign of something seriously wrong. In a worst case scenario the tooth may need to be extracted. If you have tried everything from pain relievers to ice packs but nothing helps, it’s time for a professional opinion.

Signs

Even intense tooth pain can subside on its own, but you should never take anything for granted. Waiting too long may make things worse. The following are signs that you may need an extraction.

  • Intense and persistent pain. If your pain isn’t responding to basic home remedies like ice or pain relievers.
  • Severe tooth damage. Pain that results from a damaged tooth may require extraction.
  • Painful swelling. If there is swelling along the jaw it may be a sign of infection. This should be treated promptly to prevent spreading. An infected tooth may require extraction.

Any of these symptoms are serious enough for immediate professional attention.  At OnCall Dental in Fresno and Hanford we perform tooth extractions, and other dental emergencies. In an emergency no appointment is needed. Walk-ins are always welcome!

Emergency Tooth Extractions

If you have a toothache, it is a clear sign that there is something wrong. It may be something as minor as a cavity that needs filling. But it could be a sign of something more serious, like an infection that needs immediate attention. If there is any doubt, remember that OnCall Dental in Fresno is here, 24/7.

Our impulse is always to try to save your tooth. But an extraction may be unavoidable. This is especially true if you have wisdom teeth coming in. Wisdom teeth are the most common extractions.

When wisdom teeth become inflamed it could be a sign of pericoronitis. Most often, this is caused by a bit of food that gets trapped beneath the gums. Food debris is easily caught beneath partially-erupted wisdom teeth.

In other cases, teeth need to be pulled because of severe decay, disease, or trauma.

We will also do our best to keep you comfortable during the procedure. It’s common for patients to feel at least a little uneasy at the prospect of having a tooth extracted. Let us know if you fall into that category. We have sedation dentistry options that can get you through your procedure without needless stress.

If we extract one of your teeth, there are going to be changes in your mouth. We will have instructions for you afterward, in order to promote healing and prevent complications.

In most extractions we place a gauze pack on the socket to help a blood clot form. Do not chew on it! You’ll need to leave it in place for about forty-five minutes. We’ll supply you with some fresh gauze to replace the initial gauze pack.

Also:

  • Do not clean your teeth around the healing socket for at least 24 hours
  • Brush the rest of your teeth, however
  • Gently rinse out your mouth with warm sal water after eating
  • Do not use mouthwash
  • Take pain medication only as we  direct
  • Swelling and pain are normal; an ice pack can help
  • Avoid hot liquids and alcohol
  • Don’t use a straw

If you have any issues like fever, nausea or vomiting afterward, call us right away. In most cases you’ll be able to eat solid foods by the next day, although you must chew carefully, and not on the extraction site.

At OnCall Dental in Fresno we specialize in emergency dentistry, including extractions. We are here seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Walks-ins Welcome: Emergency Dentistry in Fresno

When you have a dental emergency, it means you have some kind of pain, and  maybe a whole lot of it. Waiting for an available dentist is out of the question. At OnCall Dental in Fresno, emergency dental care is available and walk-ins are always welcome.

Why is it that dental emergencies always seem to happen on the weekend? Maybe it’s because we get busier then, and are more likely to injure a tooth by playing sports, or falling off a bicycle. We also go the movies more often on the weekends. It’s hard to resist a bucket of popcorn, but if you bite down wrong on a kernel you can damage a tooth.

While it may be true that most dental emergencies are not as severe as other medical emergencies, they’re still serious. Issues with your teeth can cause a special type of pain, and you should see a dentist as soon as possible.

At OnCall Dental, we can treat:

  • Severe toothache
  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Knocked out tooth
  • Object stuck between the teeth
  • Bitten tongue or lip

Even if you have never been to OnCall Dental in Fresno, we will treat you if you have an emergency. We are here to serve you when you need it the most. Walk-ins are welcome and you don’t need to call ahead.

Keep Us On Speed Dial: Oncall Dental

The phone number for OnCall Dental in Fresno is one of those you might want to have on your speed dial, or at least taped onto the front of your refrigerator.

On the other hand, you don’t need an appointment and walk-ins are always welcome. We know that you can never predict a dental emergency. From a knocked out tooth to a cracked tooth, from a bit tongue to a toothache, unpredictability is the nature of the beast.

If you have a dental emergency, remember that we’re here for you. Of course, the best thing to do is to not have an emergency in the first place. That’s why we encourage all of our patients to take good care of their teeth by brushing and flossing twice a day. When you participate in sports, always wear a mouth guard. And never chew on ice or hard candy – let it melt in your mouth.

But we know that all the precautions in the world won’t prevent dental emergencies from happening. Toothaches can get worse and need an after-hour root canals, and sometimes teeth get knocked out. At OnCall Dental in Fresno, we offer night and weekend hours, with services and availability seven days a week. You don’t have to call ahead, and we accept most dental insurance.

Pull It Now! Wisdom Teeth in Fresno

Impacted wisdom teeth have a way of getting your attention. That’s because they can be so painful. OnCall Dental in Fresno is there for you.

For most people, wisdom teeth come in during their late teens or early twenties. That’s the age when most of us getting a little wisdom about life, too – hence the term, “wisdom teeth.” Dentists frequently recommend extracting wisdom teeth as a preventive measure, and when they’re extracted early in life it’s a fairly straightforward procedure.

And yet, wisdom teeth can become painfully impacted at any age, before we get around to having them pulled. Impacted means they’re crowding your jaw, which can lead to complications, including abscesses and gum disease. They can also damage the teeth alongside them.

Symptoms of an impacted wisdom tooth include:

  • Red or swollen gums
  • Tender gums
  • Bleeding gums
  • Swollen jaw
  • Bad breath

It’s easy to see why so many dentists recommend extraction as a preventive measure. (By the way, wisdom teeth have nothing to do with wisdom. If they did, we probably would not extract so many!)

If any of your wisdom teeth begin giving you pain and you’re in need of immediate attention, contact OnCall Dental in Fresno. We also offer emergency root canals, and treat toothaches. Walk-ins are always welcome. We can bill all PPO insurance policies, and are currently contracted with Delta Dental Premier, Aetna, Cigna and ASI.

A Phone Call Away: Emergency Dental Care in Fresno

Taking good care of your teeth means more than just brushing and flossing twice a day. It also means taking the necessary precautions that come with any active lifestyle.

If you’re an athlete, or if your son or daughter is an athlete, they should always wear a mouth guard – at practice, and on game day. The more rugged the sport the more important a mouth guard is, but even supposedly non-contact sports, like basketball, have more than their fair share of bumps and bruises.

Bumps and bruises, and mouth injuries. Accidents happen. Players collide, or catch an errant ball in the mouth. Common types of mouth injuries any athlete is at risk of getting, even with a mouth guard, include cracked, broken, or even knocked-out teeth. With prompt emergency care from a dental professional, most of these injuries can be treated successfully.

Of course, a lot of games, especially at the amateur level, take place on weekends, when most dental offices are closed. At OnCall Dental in Fresno, we’re just a phone call away. In fact, you don’t even need a phone. If you or your young athlete suffer a mouth injury, make a beeline to our office. Walk-ins are always welcome, and you’ll receive excellent dental care. We also provide general dentistry, including extractions, and treatment for toothaches. We accept most PPO insurance plans.
